Mayonnaise cafes? Ew

We love mayo, but perhaps not this much.

Not one but two mayonnaise-based eateries are set to pop-up in Japan in the coming months, celebrating the creamy dip in all its glory.

The cafes are being opened by Kewpie, a 92-year-old Japanese mayo brand that is widely recognised as superior:

South Korea’s biggest dog meat market stays open, despite promises to shut it

Amid reports celebrating the closure of South Korea’s biggest dog meat market, it appears the Moran market will stay open after all, an animal rights group says.

The country has started to shutter its dog meat markets in response to international criticism, ahead of it playing host to the 2018 Winter Olympics.

But Moran in Seongnam, which sells the meat from over 80,000 dogs per year for human consumption, is due to stay open, says the Coexistence of Animal Rights on Earth (CARE). 

It’s merely the display and slaughtering of live dogs that would stop — dog meat sales will continue at Moran, CARE said in a statement on Wednesday. Read more…

One more gaffe for India’s national airline and people can’t stop rubbing it in

Fault in the stars? Or perhaps in the skies? 

Because nothing seems to be going right for India’s national airline, Air India. First, it was pilloried for choosing to reserve seats for women. Then, a London hotel shamed its cabin crew for taking away buffet food in lunchboxes. And now, this.

Two of Air India’s engineers forgot a basic step thus forcing an aircraft to make an emergency landing, the Press Trust of India reported. 

A Delhi-Cochin flight which took off from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport early Monday morning had to be grounded forcibly within 40 minutes because the engineers had “forgotten” to remove pins from the landing gear, thus making it impossible for the pilot to retract the aircraft’s wheels.   Read more…

Government recruitment video is yeah, pretty cringeworthy

Government advertisements usually fall into two different categories: They’re either forgettable, or they’re really, really bad.

This ad for Australia’s Department of Finance falls into the latter category. It’s to promote its graduate program, but we can’t help feel that some people might delete their applications after watching the video.
