The Democratic women of Congress dressed up for Donald Trump’s first address Tuesday night, but it was to make a strong statement.

Dozens dressed in white and filled the rows of seats right in Trump’s line of vision to call out for women’s rights.

Their color choice dates back to the suffragettes of the early 1900s, who were known for wearing white while campaigning to bring voting rights to women.

Uber’s Travis Kalanick: Yep, I’m a jerk, basically

Hey, it’s a day of the week ending in “y;” must be time for yet another Travis Kalanick apology.

After a video of the ride hailing company CEO berating an Uber driver emerged Tuesday, Kalanick sent a note to staff, which was subsequently shared as a blog post.

Saying he treated the driver, Fawzi Kamel, “disrespectfully,” Kalanick apologized to him as well as the wider Uber team and community.

“To say that I am ashamed is an extreme understatement,” he wrote. “My job as your leader is to lead … and that starts with behaving in a way that makes us all proud. That is not what I did, and it cannot be explained away.” Read more…

Watch Netflix’s first look at Joon Ho Bong’s new monster movie ‘Okja’

Tilda Swinton’s line “I took nature and science, and synthesised,” is simple enough, but in the first teaser to director Joon Ho Bong’s upcoming Netflix film, Okja, it carries a lot of meaning. 

The follow up to Snowpiercer, Bong’s new movie explores the liminal state between animal and man. 

The film co-stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano and Lily Collins. It’s central character, however, is Mija — a young girl who seeks to prevent a powerful, multi-national company from kidnapping her friend.

Her friend happens to be a massive “synthenised” beast called named Okja, that kind of looks like a pig-ish, elephant-skinned creature with very human eyes.  Read more…

Thirsting for the new Nokia 3310? Just make sure it works where you live

Nostalgia is cheap, but it gets us every damn time.

Nokia’s reboot of the classic 3310 sent people in an unprecedented fervour when it debuted at Mobile World Congress on the weekend. Turns out people want durable dumbphones that’ll last longer than a year. Even if they don’t offer much except for Snake.

The bad news though is that it might not even work: The Nokia 3310 relies on 2.5G connectivity, which requires 2G networks.

A python eating a possum upside in a tree is the most horrifying thing you’ll see all day

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: Everything in Australia is trying to kill you.

While that might be a little OTT, there’s nothing like coming across a huge snake devouring a possum to put the fear of nature back into you.

According to Ten News, tourist sisters Simone and Michelle Hunjak came across the carpet python, dangling upside down in a tree, in Byron Bay. Fighting against the laws of physics, the snake was attempting to swallow a ringtail possum whole while it “hung out.” Creepy.

Basically everyone reuses their passwords

Every once in a while I have to log into a website I haven’t been to in, say, a year. I type in my username and password, hit enter, and the internet yells at me. 

Wrong password. OK, I say, and type another variation of the password.

I tell myself, “This time I’ll use a an exclamation point instead of an ‘I,'” sure that this could be the only other option. 

Wrong again, so I go back to typing my original guess, thinking maybe I’d misspelled it the first time, but no, I’m wrong, and now my fingers are flying across the keyboard until the internet has yelled at me so many times that I have to create a new password and answer a bunch of questions to prove I’m not some imposter hacker trying to steal my own LinkedIn info.  Read more…
