The Rock can’t wait to meet Elizabeth Warren, who is apparently a huge ‘Ballers’ fan

TwitterFacebook

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson can smell what Elizabeth Warren is cooking … and he likes it.

On Friday afternoon, the movie star tweeted this after it was revealed that the Democratic senator from Massachusetts was a big fan of the HBO show Ballers, which is basically Entourage but with sports agents:

Can’t wait to meet Senator Warren one day. She’s got a big Rock sized hug coming for all the @BallersHBO luv. She’s a baller 👊🏾https://t.co/Ekggy8raDB

— Dwayne Johnson (@TheRock) July 1, 2017

In a segment for Full Frontal, Warren sat down with host Samantha Bee, where it was revealed the senator had a huge crush on The Rock—which, I mean, who doesn’t. Read more…

‘True Detective’ Season 3 could star Mahershala Ali and suddenly we’re interested again

TwitterFacebook

Oscar winner and professional scene-stealer Mahershala Ali has single-handedly renewed our interest in True Detective Season 3.

The Moonlight star is currently in early talks to star in the third season of HBO’s anthology crime drama, Mashable has confirmed, although a deal is not yet in place. HBO declined to comment on Ali’s potential involvement, which was first reported by the Tracking Board.

If everything works out, Ali would follow in the footsteps of Season 1 stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, and Season 2 leads Rachel McAdams, Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch and Vince Vaughn.  Read more…

EPA to actually hold ‘red-team’ climate debates, in a new level of ‘head-in-the-sand bullshit’

TwitterFacebook

In what many climate scientists see as a direct assault on the scientific process, the Trump administration is moving ahead with a plan to hold so-called “red team, blue team” climate science debates.

The plan, which was first reported by ClimateWire on Friday morning and then detailed by the New York Times, would involve government-appointed experts chosen with the help of Scott Pruitt, the head of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and an outspoken climate denier.

In an indication of who the plan may be intended to favor, it was reportedly first unveiled to coal company executives at a meeting of the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity on Thursday. Read more…

A new tool will check if you’re vulnerable to the hack that brought down computers across the globe

TwitterFacebook

WannaCry paralyzed hospitals. NotPeya crashed banks. But how to know if you’re vulnerable to the stolen National Security Agency exploit that fueled two major cyber attacks and helped bring down computers across the globe?

Thankfully, a new tool has your back.

After the Shadow Brokers hacking group dumped a cache of stolen NSA exploits in April, the cybersecurity community issued dire warnings that things were about to get really, really bad. But then Microsoft quickly chimed in to note that it had already patched the vulnerabilities in question.  Read more…

If you ever loved ‘Doctor Who,’ now is the time to watch

TwitterFacebook

There are a dozen very good reasons why you might have stopped watching Doctor Who. Maybe you’re a holdout from the classic series, which ran from 1963 to 1989. Maybe you loved Christopher Eccleston in the role and couldn’t stand David Tennant; maybe you’re a die-hard Ten fan who loathed Matt Smith.

More likely, you’ve been turned off at some point in the Peter Capaldi era. No doubt you love the grumpy old Scot himself, but showrunner Steven Moffat’s increasingly twisty scripts, reset-button endings and preference for jokes over satisfying plot points have left many former fans with Who fatigue.  Read more…

‘Stranger Things’ is going where no Netflix show ever has: Comic-Con’s Hall H

TwitterFacebook

Netflix has never been on the big Hall H stage at Comic-Con, but then again, they’ve never had anything quite like Stranger Things.

The streaming phenom first came to Netflix on July 15 last year, just a week before the annual nerd pilgrimage got underway. The buzz that’s made the show such a hit was just building steam then — and certainly not in time to make it Hall H-worthy.

Well Hall H, prepare to go upside-down: With a year under its belt and a new season right around the corner, Netflix is moving into the big kids’ room, the 6,000-seat monolith where so many Comic-Con legends were born. Read more…
