A YA tale inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement should be the next book you read

It may be early in the year, but the best YA novel of 2017 is likely already in stores.

The Hate U Give, the debut novel of author Angie Thomas, hit shelves today and is the buzziest non-sequel to hit the YA world in some time.

Inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, The Hate U Give follows sixteen-year-old Starr Carter, a girl caught between two worlds. One is the poor black neighborhood where she lives, the other the rich suburban prep school she attends. But when Starr’s childhood best friend is killed by a police officer, an act Starr witnesses, she’s thrust into the turmoil and the national story her neighborhood becomes. Read more…
