The team behind ‘The Division’ is turning James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’ into a video game

Ubisoft’s already made an Avatar game, back in 2009. But now Massive Entertainment, the development studio behind The Division, is tackling one of their own.

We don’t know much about the game, save for some flowery language about its pretty world and themes that you can hear in the video Ubisoft released this morning from the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. The developers are working on the game with Fox and James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment, and it will be set in the world of Pandora.

Ubisoft’s 2009 Avatar: The Game — a prequel — was set two years before the events of the actual movie, and let you choose between playing as a human RDA solider or one of the Na’vi. In the video above, associate creative director Ditte Deenfeldt mentions that players will be able to experience the universe of Pandora to their choosing, which could suggest a similar avatar/human choice or perhaps narrative decisions that could impact the story — another popular video game trend.
